Sandra Bernhard

Actress and Performer

Program Title - Because I Said So...Straight Talk From Ms Sandra

The New York Times called her "…a living, breathing bonfire." Critic Camille Paglia saluted her "quick razor sharp mind…brainy neuroticism and earthly sensuality...." While many of her peers pander to the mainstream, Sandra Bernhard challenges fans and critics alike with her knife-edged satire, insightful observations of pop culture, and emotive performances.

A multimedia-marvel whose wide-ranging accomplishments in comedy, film, television, music and book publishing defy categorization, Bernhard has crafted a unique program especially for the college market and the impressionable young minds contained therein. Because I Said So... Straight Talk From Ms Sandra brings the star of the critically acclaimed one-woman Broadway hit I'm Still Here, Damn It! to your very own corner of the world for an unforgettable evening of social commentary, biting humor and satire, mixed with music and accompanied by her pianist.

No stranger to the stage, Bernhard took Lilith Fair by storm ('99) and toured nationwide in her other one-woman shows (Without You I'm Nothing ['88] and Giving Till It Hurts{'92]). This prolific performer is also a best-selling author: May I Kiss You on the Lips Miss Sandra is her third book; she has also written articles for such magazines as Vanity Fair, People, Rolling Stone, Elle, and Spin, among others.

Bernhard received her first film accolades back in 1982 for her performance in Martin Scorcese's King of Comedy. More recently, she has been seen in such films as Track 29, Hudson Hawk, and Unzipped. On the small screen, she has made special guest appearances in shows including Will & Grace, The Sopranos, and Ally McBeal, and from 1991-1996 she played the fiercely independent and always outspoken Nancy on Roseanne.

Fierce. Tender. Confrontational, yet vulnerable. Funny, philosophical and always controversial. Amen. Come share a highly entertaining and provocative evening with Ms. Sandra, as she reveals life's secrets and perhaps a few of her own. Her goal? To "teach the children the way it should be."
