Bill Bergey

Former Philadelphia Eagles and Five Time NFL Pro Bowl Linebacker

While playing for the Eagles from 1974 to 1980, All-Pro middle linebacker Bill Bergey was a player who possessed great passion, intellect, talent, and was known as one of the hardest working individuals to ever grace his defensive position. Today, once again he is using the same passion, intellect and work ethic to his advantage in his present-day career endeavors. Thus, he is successful in the business world just as he was on the football field before retiring from the game in 1981. In addition, Bergey serves as a media personality in the Philadelphia sports market. "It's amazing how football has become such a big media thing. But the reason why my work (both on television and radio) has been so much fun is because the Eagles have been so successful," Bergey said. "Ranging from Andy Reid, to Jeffrey Lurie, to Joe Banner, they all want to win a championship very bad.

Bergey does radio work and has a weekly television segment every Thursday on Daily News Live during the football season on Comcast SportsNet. During his first two years of college, Bergey, a 1969 graduate of Arkansas State University, faced challenges both on and off the field. Arkansas State retired Bergey's collegiate jersey #66 back in November, 1997.

During his professional career, the defensive standout cherished the opportunity to play for two great NFL coaches: Paul Brown of the Cincinnati Bengals and former Eagles head coach Dick Vermeil. In fact, Bergey was even a coach himself, coaching high school football at Tatnall High School in Delaware for 13 years. Bergey, who is originally from South Dayton, NY, amassed close to 1,200 tackles during a seven-year stint with the Eagles, which included a trip to Super Bowl XV. Today, Bergey resides in Chadds Ford, PA, with his wife Micky and both are often busy observing the success of their three sons - Jason, Jake, and Josh. Bergey's three sons also excelled in athletics, but all chose a different route than their father. When asked why he decided to remain in the Philadelphia region even after his playing days were over, Bergey responded, "I just knew Philadelphia was the place where I wanted to spend the rest of my life."
