Dusty Baker

Legendary Major League Baseball Manager & Player

An Evening With Dusty Baker

In 2003, Dusty Baker pulled the Chicago Cubs out of mediocrity and thrust them into the MLB spotlight, as they made it into the postseason for the first time since 1998 and won their first NL Central Division title. His storied career and many achievements make him uniquely qualified to comment on such topics as teamwork, teambuilding, and diversity in the workplace and society.

As a player Dusty Baker spent 16 prestigious seasons with Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Oakland. He was twice selected to the National League All-Star team, appeared in four National League Championship Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and was selected NLCS MVP after hitting .357 in the Dodgers' 4-game series with Philadelphia. Dusty went to three World Series with the Dodgers and beat the New York Yankees in 1981 to win the World Championship.

As a manager, beyond his amazing accomplishments in 2003, he has made it to the postseason four times; set a record for winning more games than any other rookie manager in National League history in 1993 and tied a San Francisco franchise record with 103 wins.; and has been named "Manager of the Year" three times (1993, 1997 & 2000). He also won the National League Manager of the Year award two times, joining the elite company of Tommy Lasorda and Jim Leyland as the only other managers to share this distinction.

Aside from his career with MLB, Dusty is well-known for his best-selling videos "You Can Teach Hitting", which he co-authored, and for his Dusty Baker School of Baseball. He is also very involved in the community providing leadership to charitable, health, youth, and law enforcement causes.
