An Evening With Holly Atkinson
As President of iVillageHealth, Dr. Holly Atkinson is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and strategy of all health initiatives, partnerships, and sponsors on iVillageHealth. She is also editor of HealthNews, the consumer newsletter of the Massachusetts Medical Society, publisher of the New England Journal of Medicine. Also, Dr. Atkinson is Lecturer in the Department of Public Health at the Weill Cornell Medical College.
Prior to joining iVillage, Dr. Atkinson was CEO of New Media for HealthAnswers, Inc., a diversified healthcare communications company. She was a founder and President and CEO of Reuters Health Information, Inc. Within 3 years of taking the helm, she led the news company to profitability and international recognition as the premiere provider of medical news on the Internet.
Dr. Atkinson is an award-winning medical journalist and one of the leaders in medical education of the American public. Her many awards include the 1986 National Council of Women’s Young Achievers’ Award and the 1995 Communication Achievement Award in Women’s Health, awarded by the Society for Advancement of Women’s Health Research. She is a noted public speaker, especially in the area of women’s health, and has extensive experience as a broadcast medical correspondent, including assignments with NBC and CBS News, Lifetime Medical Television, and the PBS health show BodyWatch.
Dr. Atkinson devotes a considerable amount of time volunteering on behalf of a number of organizations and charities, including a 1996 medical mission to Bosnia, where she documented the health effects of landmines on the civilian population.
Dr. Atkinson holds both an M.D. from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and an M.S. in journalism from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
